Today on Movieisms we have our Sorry To Bother You movie review. As white people, we will try to explain why we think it’s a protest film wrapped in satirical clothing. Sorry To Bother You is from the visionary mind of first time director Boots Riley. It stars Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler and Danny Glover.
At first, the film seems like an uncomfortable and sometimes shocking ride through the mind of a telemarketer, Cassius Green. Then you begin to realize that you’re in an alternate reality of present-day Oakland, California. Early on, Cassius Green discovers the ability to speak “white guy” which helps him move up in the world. Moreover, he gets promoted and regretfully leaves his friends behind.
In summary, Sorry To Bother You is an acid trip filled with metaphors that reflect our trump-era frustrations. Furthermore, the plethora of visual oddities are open to many interpretations and makes for a great dialogue with friends.
